Young Troy - Genius Pack
Weekly Music
Young Troy has just released his new "Genius Pack" 2-pack. This short project contains two singles, "Do it Myself/ Recession" and "Savastano." I like how each track has a different vibe to it. "Do It Myself/ Recession," featuring Pretty City, adds a nice dark melodic rap sound to the project. The first half of the song takes a slower more low-toned sound while the second half shifts to a slightly more upbeat and a higher tone lift. It's a slight change that brings a different vibe and excitement to the track, giving it more longevity. The second track has a more methodical approach. Pretty City, his consistent collaborator, is another incredible artist who has essentially mastered this sound. He's built his entire style around this sound, and each bar embodies confidence and quality. His rhythms and flows are clear and concise while giving a deep more grungy vocal performance. Young Troy's voice has a more melodic tone, and tracks like "Savastano" show off his more soulful and vocal side. His versatility is great. His ability to also bring out a deeper vocal and rap is something I love to see, that versatility is always amazing to hear. I also enjoy the consistency of his cadence and atmosphere in his music, especially on this project. The atmosphere is almost menacing. It has a darker vibe to it, and it's even expressed on the cover with the dark void and a smudged image in the middle with that cinematic matrix green, which I really appreciate. Another thing that has me excited is the production. "Do It Myself/ Recession" has a thumping cinematic beat and a simple electronic instrumental pattern. The artists do the majority of the work on the track, while the beat stays out of the way. "Savastano" fills the void with a more vibrant yet dark and complex instrumental pattern. I really like the track's eerie and echoey sound stage. The production on both tracks is brilliant, as are the mixing and mastering, and I enjoy the mood provided by both instrumentals. They have a tone for the entire project right from the jump. It really completes the project and makes it full. I'm looking forward to delving deeper into his discography, really interested in hearing his full story. I would love to see some sort of a full-length project come in the near future. Whether it’s a full-length project or a single, I’m definitely tuning in moving forward and I think you should too.
