Sayso’s

“Shut Up” is a fun take on the everyday revenge song. It humorously defies feelings of pain and transforms them into something that hits perfectly in the moment. A break-up can be debilitating at times, but Sayso flips the narrative and uses his pain as a way to show her how much he doesn't need her, taking an approach to show her that it was always “her loss”. Using that emotion and pairing it with house music creates it into a revenge anthem that is truly unique and something I have yet to discover before hearing this. It's legendary and fun, embracing what it is but also masking itself behind what a breakup song is expected to be.

Multiple huge standouts come out of this song, some of them being the use of a voice note to get a point across. This song is the perfect send-off to your ex before you block them after they have ruined you or your life. One can say that using someone's words against them is petty, but in this instance, it makes the song feel raw and true to the narrative of what it stands for. This song provides a satisfying ending to a story that is often forgotten or left on a cliffhanger in music. It portrays toxicity in a way that is often thought of but never executed in a person's healing journey post-breakup. This is the best way to cut the thread and hurt the person back, the same way they hurt you.

The vocals, the beat as well and the melody work perfectly well together. Everything is very quick, and it feels like it finishes in a flash, making you want to play the song on repeat to fully take in and hit a level of satisfaction with the music. It feels like this song could belong in a club with the house-style beat, but it also fits well as a song you can blast on the bus to work. It's very versatile with its sound, and it fits perfectly with the message that it preaches: “You wanted me to shut up by now i cant”. Taking what was a norm in the toxicity that Sayso was in and finally flipping the narrative gave us a masterpiece that can be jammed to any time, especially after being done dirty by someone. Even though everything seems like it's going quickly, the voice note slows things down and brings you back to reality. You deserve your peace, and it's time for you to never shut up.

In conclusion, this song is more than just a song it is the biggest fuck you that Sayso could have created for what he was feeling. Sometimes, people can feel trapped or hurt when in a constant state of betrayal, but in this song, it seems like he is overjoyed to finally be out of the hell that he has been living in with his girlfriend. It's quick and fun and can be enjoyed in so many different settings, playing with how different the sound and the message can be. This song wasn't meant to be sad, making a sad emotion into something joyful to preach good vibes and evolution. With this being my introduction to Sayso but also the house genre, it was memorable and something that will become a revisit at any time of the day.
