Kampaign - No Distractions
Weekly Music
Kampaign's latest single, "No Distractions," could be the city's next big hit this month. Kampaign has been doing his thing for a few years now. He's been keeping a low profile and concentrating on his music. Many Toronto acts are more concerned with antics than with making good music. For example, whether you like or dislike another street rapper by the name of Duvy, you can't deny that he is the first Toronto street rapper to make the noise he is making entirely through music while also building a strong fanbase in the United States. Kampaign is producing high-quality music too, and his attention to detail is what sets him apart from the crowd. After a brief hiatus from the spotlight, he returns with "No Distractions." He's talking shit on this one, and I like the more lyrical aspect of it. The track doesn't have a particularly strong structure, with a consistent hook and two short verses, but rather a more direct delivery with a melodic undertone to each bar he delivers. The main hook blends in seamlessly with the verse, rather than being the highlight of the song. This track's instrumentals and beat selection were fantastic. I've been digging the high-end production the city has been hearing lately, and Victor Lassila did not disappoint on this track. The dark atmosphere in the beat contributes to the track's power. The darker, the more atmospheric sound reminds me of something 21savage might have done. This is a fantastic first track back, and I hope to hear more very soon. The city has been a little on the mainstream end, and this could be the moment Kampaign capitalizes and makes his next major impact. I'm excited to hear more music from him and hope for a full-length project soon.
