Friyie - Never 2 Late
Weekly Music
Friyie recently released his latest 7-track EP, "Never 2 Late." This EP contains several standout tracks, including "Back On Roads," "Anniversary," and "Cinderella." Friyie has been producing some incredible music over the last year. His single off this project titled “Sorry Not Sorry” had created some much needed buzz. Friyie has always been the artist the city knows and loves, but one who avoids drama and controversial situations, which I admire. He is completely devoted to his music and his career as a whole. Friyie could be one of the first rappers from Toronto to become a star in areas other than music, such as acting and commercial. His music has been making waves for years in the city and it’s amazing to see how far he has come with it. This EP has been expertly produced and mixed. I like the project's flow as well as the variety of sounds. Friyie has a distinct cadence that is easy to identify. As unfortunate as it is, many Toronto artists sound the same. So when a distinct voice come out and punches through the noise it’s always amazing to see. Friyie also brings some amazing delivery in this project, the confident and energetic delivery is really what makes his tracks hold so much power. His flows and mixing style are just minor details that enhance the overall product. The project includes some incredible beat selections; a good song and project begin with the right beat selection. For example, "Back On Road," my favourite track on the project, begins with acoustic guitar and transitions into a Toronto drill beat. The energy buildup and atmosphere established at the start are critical in setting the tone for the rest of the track and the beat does that perfectly. The work between both the instrumentals and the artist is what makes amazing timeless music. Beats that carry the artists always tend to fill a short term satisfaction and is quickly forgotten. This is a problem I've never seen Friyie have. I believe you can listen to Friyi's entire discography and truly feel and understand his story. There are no one-hit wonders that launched his career; it took years of good music to get to this point. Friyie is breaking into the mainstream and will be one of the first Toronto rappers from the new era that began in 2015 to achieve super star status. I genuinely believe that he has the look and quality. I'm looking forward to seeing what Friyie has in store for us next and in the future.
