CALM - YbaFrmDaJane ft. Teegz
Weekly Music
YbaFrmDaJane was brought to my attention about two weeks ago. Yba's sound and style are influenced by UK Drill, and he brings a Toronto spin on the well-known and popular genre of Drill. We have drill music in Toronto that is well-known in the city but barely known outside of the country. Yba, who didn't initially catch my attention, but after a few listens and seeing his sound as being a lot more distinct. I can see him growing beyond the sound constraints that other Toronto rappers and drill artists face. His delivery and vocals do not sound Canadian, which contributes significantly to his importance. The instrumentals are among the most popular sounds from the UK drill scene. The powerful 808s are fantastic, and that instrumental sample is a staple in many drill beats. The energy conveyed by Yba's delivery is excellent, and the hook is both catchy and memorable. His cadence is truly unique, and he has the potential to become a household drill name in due time. Teegz, the feature on the track, delivered an excellent verse. It was actually quite complimentary to the song. Teegz has a more traditional drill cadence, and he blends in well with the drill sound. His accent and vocal tone are just perfect for that UK drill while Yba is a bit more of a rapping voice, drill is something he can easily tackle but isn’t limited to His consistent ties to the homies at The Broken Playground have really put him in the spotlight in Toronto's vast open scene of artists. I've visited many states in the United States, and major cities like Miami don't have as vibrant an underground scene as we do. Drill is something I don’t see as often if ever in the underground so it’s nice to see talents like Yba doing their thing. This is definitely a playlist-worthy track with both artists holding major potential in great careers in drill.
