Underdawgbuju - DEAD$tOCK!
Weekly Music
Underdawgbuju's most recent release, "DEAD$tOCK!," is yet another hit in his ever-expanding discography. He hasn't missed a single time. I love the direction Buju is headed in, he is carving out his own lane right now. His sound is like a separate subgenre of rage and hyperpop. This, combined with his appearance and fashion sense, makes him stand out and be himself. “DEAD$tOCK!” is a fun bumpy tune that brings a more viby tone to the table. I like the instrumental and beat selection on this; it has an outer space synth and a punchy 808 to bring the structure. Buju's cadence is very distinct; I absolutely love his deep raspy voice and the aggression with which he delivers it. This song even has a catchy and memorable hook that repeats "Catch it up" over and over with this melodic tone. The simplicity is what draws you in, but on the technical side, I like how he says it with a variable pitch and tone to fit the beat. I like the little sound effects he added to spice things up, as well as the very important sutle ad-libs that just fill in the gaps. Ad libs are an art form in and of themselves. You can do so much with ad-libs and background sound effects. Lil Esso, for example, is on the polar opposite end of the music spectrum from Buju. This is a more mainstream sound, but sound design and ad-libs are equally important in his music. It's something you don't think matters, but when it's gone, you realize how much of an impact that small change had on the final product. Besides that Buju should start collaborating with more rage and hyperpop artists in the city, such as Kay Nive$, FBK, Akari Stylze, Katozai, and many others the city has to offer. The city's music scene is more powerful than anyone can imagine, so we need some collab tracks, if not major collab tapes, between some of these artists. Buju simply needs to maintain his consistency and collaboration frequency, and the city will recognize him in no time. The US is also watching everything we do, so that just adds to the fire. Regardless, I'm excited to see what Buju does and how much more he will evolve in the next year.
