Guss just released his first project of 2022 titled “Backroads.” This 7-track EP is full of emotion, energy, and passion. Guss has grown as an artist and his sound has evolved over the last year. The project has an incredible selection of instrumentals and beats, which creates a huge atmosphere for the project and gives it a more cinematic aesthetic. I like his approach to the project, and I like how he pushed his vocal range on this one. He has a fuller sound and a more assured overall tone. "OUD," "Back Roads," and "Full Circle" are among my personal favorites from the project. The instrumentals on "OUD" are some of the most memorable on the project. It’s already an iconic track, but the beat mixed with the powerful delivery makes this track a standout. Guss has this cadence that has leveled up from his previous work. He sounds more assertive and even more mature behind the mic. I love the project “Scary” that project still is one the best of 2021 and is a piece of work that will be remembered down the line. But “Backroads” is just that next level of Guss that I love to see. “OUD” delivers this memorable melodic flow on this heavy-hitting beat, It’s energy mixed with the melodic flow and tension. Tracks like “Back Roads,” “Full Circle,” and “Attitude” are the best artistically speaking. From an artistic standpoint, these are unquestionably Guss's best pieces. His melodic approach and large instrumental sound stage make his music some of the city's more cinematic pieces. “Back Roads” opens right into Guss’s vocals and delivers this soulful and angelic performance. It reminds me of Drizzy, but with Guss's more exciting cadence. The flow and delivery in "Full Circle" are heavier and more emphasized. It’s got a softer drill beat with Guss’s already classic melodic delivery. This might be the most unique instrumental and production on the track.“ "Attitude" is a slower, more emotional composition. I like how it provides a deeper and more emotional experience from Guss. It has these catchy and memorable moments, as well as his best vocal performance to date. Guss outdid himself on this one; this project ranks among the best of 2022. I'm pleased with what Guss delivered and hope to see more soon. Whatever he does next, I'll be there for the ride.
