Devontée - STAY THE COURSE
Weekly Music
Devontée just released a project titled “SKIP THE SMALL TALK” featuring a whole list of bangers with one sticking out to me in particular. It’s a track titled “STAY THE COURSE” and it may be my favorite track of his. This past year, he's really gotten deeper into his bag, and his sound has only gotten stronger. He’s being talked about in the underground scene this year and seeing him just increasing the quality and consistency is showing me that he is just getting to the bag and I love to see it. The track opens up to a powerful 808 beat pattern that just rattles the eardrums, in a good way. It just sets an amazing energy right from the start and gives off that fun and exciting atmosphere. As usual, his delivery and flow are direct and punchy. He experiments with his flow, resulting in some very unique and memorable moments. He also has a great deep vocal tone and cadence that sets him apart from the crowd, particularly in the Toronto music scene. Toronto has a diverse scene that is becoming more open by the day. We are beginning to have a global impact, and artists like Devontée are at the forefront of that growth. His deep voice is a catalyst for what draws many of his fans to his music; it's unique, especially in the sound that he is in. Most artists in this space, like Playboicarti, have this higher-pitched baby voice, but Devontée has turned the wheel and is doing the opposite, and he is one of the only ones I know who does that. This is one of the most memorable aspects of his music. The high-end product is important but Devontée carries his unique cadence and confident delivery on another level. Devontée delivered a great project that needs its own time just to dive into, but “STAY THE COURSE” is on repeat. I'm excited to see what Devontée has planned next. Regardless of what it is, I’m here for the journey.
