Casper TNG - Before the Storm Hits 2
Weekly Music
Casper just dropped his highly anticipated album titled “Before the Storm Hits 2.” Casper is still one of the most powerful and influential names in the Toronto scene. He has showcased time and time again why he’s one of the most powerful in the city. His dedication to the craft through the troubles he has faced over the years is remarkable. The fact that he was at the top while being behind bars for most of his career is something that showcases real talent for making hit records but also captivating a crowd. Casper is one of the few that can do both. He has the fire in him to overcome beefs in the city but also turn around and release a hit record that trends outside the city. Casper is one of the few og Toronto rappers that I actually look forward to when they drop. This project was no exception. The album is packed with 17 songs with a few of them being singles we have heard before like “Jus Wanna Rock,” and “Me N Me.” Casper continues to apply pressure with some of these records. Using his controversial moments in records like “Violent” where you can hear a reporter talking about the car chase Casper and K-Money were on back in 2018. This is exactly why Casper stands out in Toronto. No one can say they have lived or experienced something like that and get out and still have a career. Casper is one of the only cases in Toronto that has worked out like this and that’s something special. We got some classic Casper while also getting some newer sides of him on this project. I love the new direction Casper is heading in though. Tracks like “Jus Wanna Rock,” “Me N Me,” and “Damaged” are perfect examples of what I’m talking about. The production of this entire album is very well done and a step up from his past work. He has a very solid beat selection across the entire project and the mixing is on point. I love Caspers ever evolving flows and melodies. He has so many unique flows across this project that it really becomes a breeding ground for new hit records. His melodic autotune sound is iconic, people already know Casper when they hear just one word and that is something that becomes very powerful the bigger you get. One thing that Casper has always had over everyone else is his distinguished voice. There is something about it that just works for me, tracks like Me N Me,” “DOWNtown,” featuring LocoCity, and “Flippin Flippin” are the perfect examples of where Casper delivers some of his exciting new flows and lets his melodies truly shine. The diversity of the project is great, I love how it’s not all one sound. He has some drill on here, some more melodic, and some classic viby Casper. “Violent” is the Detroit drill track of the project. It’s the more reckless track with higher energy production and delivery. “Flippin Flippin” is the side of Casper I personally really enjoy and it’s the more melodic side. “4 Wheelers in Giza” is the perfect example of the classic vibe Casper that caught all of our attention back in 2016. I love the versatility and range that Casper has given us here. I’m excited to see what Casper has in store for us next, hope to see some type of major collaboration and or some more major shows in the city.
