Young Smoke & Lil Berete - 4AM On Dupont
Weekly Music
Young Smoke has just released his highly anticipated single "4AM On Dupont," which features rising legend Lil Berete. This is an instant classic. The hype and wait were well worth it. Smoke is carrying on the legacy of his older brother (RIP Smoke Dawg.) Smoke has a matured voice and sound that has become one of the most enjoyable voices in the Toronto rap scene. It's something that has made Smoke one of the more gifted artists. Lil Berete has been a driving force in the Toronto music scene for many years. His overall discography is among the best in the Toronto street rap scene and beyond. He has evolved into an incredible all-around artist, going beyond just being a rapper. His African roots have really given him a much stronger deeper culture than most others in the scene. His diversity in music has aided in his sound and overall artistry. The regent park rap scene hasn't been as popular in recent years, but it's only strengthened its position as the city's best more mature group. This track begins with a memorable and unique instrumental that sets the tone and atmosphere for the rest of the song. This is an intro that is difficult to forget, and it is the one defining aspect of the track that will stick with you no matter how often or rarely you listen to it. Smoke and Berete would only amplify that fun melodic vibe in their performances. Their melodic rap styles complement each other well, and their distinct cadences help them contrast. Smoke flows, and the hook is memorable and catchy. He exudes a very confident and serious demeanor. He wants you to understand his message, and his delivery accomplishes this. To top it all off, Berete adds a fantastic verse to an already fantastic track. It's a playlist banger that packs a punch and brings some great vibes back to Regent Park. I'm looking forward to Smokes' "I'm Now" EP, which will be released tonight at 12 a.m. I hope to see more of Smoke and more amazing Regent Park collaborations in the near future.
