Underdawgbuju has just unveiled his highly anticipated project, "Kenny!" This 8-track project delves deep into the creative world of Buju, showcasing some of his finest work to date. While most of the project is a solo effort, it includes two notable collaborations: "7:30" featuring FBK and "BAGBOY" featuring K-T3. One element that immediately grabbed my attention was the project's maturity. It exudes a sense of growth and evolution in Buju's music. The album cover, often overlooked by many, made a lasting impression on me. Its strength lies in its simplicity. The choice of angle, lighting, and subtle motion blur combine to create an iconic aesthetic. It's straightforward yet incredibly memorable, leaving a powerful first impression. The production quality throughout "Kenny!" is outstanding. Each beat feels meticulously crafted, serving a purpose in enhancing the overall listening experience. Some of the most memorable beats can be found on tracks like "BEND EH?," "7:30," and "WIDEBODY." Buju's performance on this album is nothing short of fantastic. His distinct sound and cadence make him one of the standout figures in Toronto's underground music scene. Tracks like "BEND EH?," "LANCEFLOW," and "WIDEBODY" allow us to truly appreciate Buju's skill. "LANCEFLOW," in particular, leaves a lasting mark due to its infectious energy. It serves as a dynamic opener for the project, with Buju delivering a memorable performance on both the hook and his verse. His ad-libs add depth to his music, showcasing his ability to manipulate his voice for added texture. It's worth noting the impressive range of Buju's voice on this album. He effortlessly delivers from deep, heavy notes to soaring highs with precision and ease. His melodic approach is a key factor in the album's replay value. His melodies are catchy and memorable, especially when paired with the beat selection. This synergy shines brightly on tracks like "BEND EH?," a personal favorite of mine. The track's energetic and vibrant tone, coupled with Buju's superb performance, creates a unique melodic experience. "Kenny!" earns its place among the standout releases in the underground Hyperpop, Plugnb, and Rage scene in Toronto. Buju's unique style and undeniable talent deserve wider recognition, and I'm very excited to see him perform this album live. I had the pleasure of witnessing his act at our 2nd DMTV underground showcase, and it was clear that he's a talent that is still very well slept on. Seeing Buju take the stage more frequently and expand his live show presence would be a big step in his career. His image and fashion sense are undeniably among the best in the underground scene today. Buju's "Kenny!" represents a significant milestone in his artistic journey, and it foreshadows a promising future in his career.
