Phree just released his latest track titled “AL-QAEDA PHREESTYLE.” As the title suggests, it’s a freestyle. Phree's delivery and cadence are completely unique in Toronto. He brings to the city his Detroit rap style with a Toronto twist. He got the perfect cadence for it and his beat selection is fantastic. This track is unlike most; the freestyle format is actually very refreshing, because it's not just a quick put-together track, but rather a freestyle format with the quality production of a regular track. The production began with a very cinematic 80s-style intro. It begins slowly with this drowned out effect, building up to the moment Phree begins his freestyle. The buildup contributes to the overall atmosphere, style, and feel of the track to come. The freestyle approach not only gives this track a unique feel and sound, but it also demonstrates Phree's ability to maintain a good flow and a powerful lyrical edge. Detroit rap is some of the most distinct in the industry, and Toronto is so close to Michigan that it's amazing how little influence each other has on one another. Phree exemplifies something I haven't seen widely adopted in Toronto, and he may be opening the door to something new for Toronto. He only released three singles in 2022, which is a small number, and I hope he can make many more this year, especially given his unique position and sound in the scene. He has a deep and arrogant voice that perfectly sells his lyrics; not arrogant in a bad way. This type of rap requires a lot of powerful shit-talking and overly confident demeanour to sell, which Phree executes perfectly. I appreciate Phree's attention to the details. I love the cover of this single; it is by far his best to date. It's unique, creative, and has a painted appearance. This, combined with the high-quality production, makes this his best and most professional release to date. Comparing this to even his last release is night and day. This is exactly what he needs to keep creating at a faster pace. I can definitely see Phree making a name for himself in this lane, and if he starts using platforms like TikTok on a regular basis, he'll be one of the best out there. I'm excited to see him go crazy this year, and hope for some type of project in the next few month. Regardless, I'm here for the journey.
