MY ANGEL, DEBRA - Calvin Moon
Calvin Moon
Calvin Moon's new album, "MY ANGEL, DEBRA," is a gritty, strong alternative and experimental composition. It has titles like "BROKE BOY CULT," "PAPA MOON," and "WHO DUN IT?!". "BROKE BOY CULT" reminds me of XXXTentation. The instrumentals and beat transport me back to the simpler days of Soundcloud. The hook of "PAPA MOON" reminds me of ASAP FERG and his load ad libs. All of these contain minor moments and bits that remind me of other artists, but the rest is pure Calvin. I mess with that because his sound fluctuates from so many various things, but I don't think he needs or should have a label. His music might be described as gritty, experimental, with rock and metal components. But he is an artist, not a rapper. His pace and rhythm vary greatly from track to track depending on the instrumentals. His cadence and delivery also vary dramatically from track to track, however a lot of this is due to the energy of the song and the instrumental that is playing. Calvin employs a lot of ad libs. Through his ad libs, he adds a lot of energy and mood to his tracks. It plays a significant part in keeping the enthusiasm up and pushing his vocals even farther. Calvin is innovating his own path and is creating sounds that are unique and that tell his story.
