Duvy - How Did I End Up Here
Weekly Music
Duvy’s latest project titled “How Did I End Up Here” is his second full-length album for the year. His consistency is impeccable and his sound is one of if not the best coming out of the city. I'm a fan of the underground, and while Duvy may be a big artist to some, he's still only breaking out of the underground mould. He is only now entering the next chapter and level of global notoriety. Duvy is a great representation of the Toronto scene and one of the few street rappers who is not only talented but also makes Toronto look good. He is one of the reasons as to the influx of US rap listeners in recent months. 2022 has been the defining year in terms of building his discography and his look. He has everything under control; the music is consistent, and the release schedule is regular and frequent. Unlike most new artists, Duvy is truly feeding his fans. He is one of the guys who is putting in the effort, and this project demonstrates that. The album contains so many classics and memorable moments that it's difficult to discuss them all in one article. "Money Guns Drugs," "Hard 2 Live," "6 AM Geekin," and "Found Love In The Trenches" are my personal favourites and some of the album highlights. These are my personal favourites among the incredible music on this project. His albums are some of the best because he only releases good music and doesn't clog the album with fillers. I can't say that a single track is project is a filler or a song to pack out the project. They all sound like great singles, and the project's 11 tracks sound like pure hits. That is something that happens very rarely for artists but the fact that he did it 2 in one ear is what really makes him stand out. This is what makes him so legendary. The high quality production is crucial to making his music feel so powerful. This, combined with his amazing and unique cadence and seamless flows, gives his music a genuine vibe that feels like home. He has a personal connection to his music, which is evident in the lyrics and his delivery. One thing that helps him reach the market across the boarder is his lack of aggressive Toronto accent during his performances. I love the different vibes he has on the project, “Money Guns Drugs” and "Hold On" gives off this high energy, very classic Duvy. However, Duvy has more melodic, vibrant, and emotional tracks such as "Found Love In The Trenches" and "Letter To My Loved Ones." These retain the Duvy energy, but with a few key differences that spice up the project. They bring something so pure and from the heart. It makes Duvy relatable and feel like a human rather than someone who is always perfect like most street rappers portray. His versatility is fantastic, but the way he does it is it always sticks to his traditional sound regardless of the feel and vibe of the production. I’m excited to continue to witness Duvy moving up the ranks and releasing more amazing music. He seems like the guy who is the next big thing in Rap in Toronto.
