Can't Make This Shit Up - Pengz
Pengz
Pengz has recently published his much-anticipated project, "Can't Make This Shit Up." Through a tracklist of seven singles, this project perfectly portrayed Spengz's energy. Some of my personal favorites of the project include "Free Chaotic," "Igloo," and "Chosen One." Pengz has a powerful deep cadence that is seriously missing in the Toronto scene. There are a lot of high pitches in the Toronto rap culture, therefore it's always refreshing to watch certain artists go deeper and lower-pitched. Most are not by choice but that's what makes them special. Pengz not only has one of the most identifiable voices in the city today, but he also has a distinct look and style. With singles like "Chosen One" and "Victoria Park," this EP displayed Pengz's lyrical rap skills and storytelling, as well as his iconic billboard radio successes like "Igloo" and "Free Chaotic." This product is wonderful for most listeners; both casual and die-hard rap lovers will get something out of it. Given how constrained some artists are, the range on this project is astounding. Pengz has an uncanny capacity to make his verses memorable; like hooks, they bring out the vibrant and lively element of the song without being too long and dull. He flows seamlessly over the track, and his beat selection and production quality throughout the project are top-notch. Overall, Pengz performed a tremendous performance and left fans with a great body of work that included several bangers and a few sleeper gems that will only improve with time. I'm looking forward to seeing where Pengz goes next.
