AUDRÉ’s

“U on U” is a slow but inviting taste of soul that keeps you tied and hooked throughout the song. Reminiscing on heavy influences and tasting what Summer Walker brings to American audiences, AUDRÉ brings to Toronto. Her smooth voice, paired with a mellowed-out beat, reminds you that heartbreak doesn't need to be extreme or violent; it can also be beautiful. It's new to me, but I constantly revisit it after hearing it for the very first time. AUDRÉ’s sound has been able to captivate me and keep me hooked onto her sound with one song. This introduced me to the genre of soul that I have been heavily missing out on but will no longer be able to ignore.

What sets this song apart from others is the atmosphere and tone set by AUDRÉ. It's calming and catchy, and it very much sticks as a feel-good song. Her voice is hypnotic, and she captures you in the song and doesn't let you go until you've heard it all. She brings the soul to the genre she is connecting to, making you see into her world and relate to how she feels simply from a single listen. It's raw and powerful and ties the emotions together perfectly, where you can see her vision as to why everything was tied together to make a stunning collection of emotion and song.

The melody heavily focuses on the instrumentals, slowing things down to set the mood for the emotions trying to be emulated. Even though the song is on the shorter end at only two minutes, the beat allows you to stay on track and relax. It isn't rushed, and it pairs well with her voice, standing out almost in the background for a perfect delivery of emotion. A melody can make or break a song, and I believe that it was paired perfectly to complete the track; it creates a memorable experience. Like sipping a cup of warm tea after a long day, it brings what is needed and allows for the memory to be savoured to its fullest potential. It's seamless without any flaws, the melody forces her voice to stand out, which is the strongest takeaway from the track itself.

As mentioned, the strongest element of this track is the vocals that AUDRÉ delivers. It is slow and almost feels like elements of it are spoken word, with this being done intentionally to create the emotions needed to present the message of passion. With the adlibs delivered by her giving the song depth, taking it out from being just a good-sounding song, it gives it that soul and that passion. With the end of the song shifting to a deeper tone as well as using repetition, it delivers a memorable send-off, reminding you of what the song was all about. Her voice is nothing less than stunning, and it was heavily focused in this track, showcasing the raw talent that AUDRÉ brings to the table. Creating a space in Toronto for R&B as well as soul-to-thrive-in for those trying to break into the genre that is often overlooked under the sea of rap that Toronto loves to focus on.

To sum up, the beauty that is “U on U” can be captured under the word that is inspiring. It is slow but full of soul, and the melody allows you to flow within the music itself, making you forget about outside worries and unwarranted thoughts. It feels like a sound that won't get tiring no matter how many times you listen to it, and that's what makes it such a great standout for AUDRÉ. Being my introduction to her and her sound, it is a standout that has made me want to dig deeper into what she brings to the table. Hearing her voice has kept me in a trance and has made me hungry for more, allowing me to dig deeper into the genre, only expecting and wanting more. This has been a major city standout, keeping a keen eye on what's to come.
