Isaiah Peck’s

“Day One” is the song. If I were to put bets on it, that would be the song of the summer, collectively celebrated and blasted by Toronto. It's fast, with constantly changing tempos and vocal ranges that allow for the constant anticipation of every shift he brings throughout the listening experience. Taking his background in dance, this makes for a hip-hop beat that would hold strong merit against others when considering the world of dance. The catchiness sticks and leaves the listener with that AHA feeling that comes to you when you find the perfect song to add to your playlist. His standout moments are within the constant beat switching as well as the catchy hook that doesn't become repetitive but, in contrast, stays in your mind on repeat.

As mentioned, Isaiah can create an atmosphere and a catchiness simply off the hook he has created, making it one of the key standouts of this song. But it also tells a story of where he's been and where he's going, showing that even though there may be major changes in one's life, you always look back and stay with the ones who made you, your Day Ones. Switching the tempo as well as the tone for the course allows it to stand out on its own, creating anticipation for the hook that is perfectly delivered in a repeating fashion with him repeating “day one”. The buildup and repetition of the hook pushes it to become a memorable standout that is contrasted by the sudden change to take you back into all the different changes the story he tells brings to the table.

Isaiah's vocal range is different from what I commonly hear; the constantly changing tone and tempo is a breath of fresh air in the pool of music that can be described as all sounding the same. He takes a risk with the change, and I believe it delivers perfectly the message he is trying to pass onto his listeners. This also shows a wide range from his voice, seeing sides of spoken word, to rap and his soft singing tone. It's a merge of different styles that diversify the song and even the category of what this song can fall under. It's hip hop, but also pop and a slight hit of rap in there. It's different, but it works beautifully; he has created a sound that stands out from others and has made it a category of his own.

The tone is one of the big players that can make or break a song. In “Day One,” I'm confident that the tone is what made the song as catchy as it became. As mentioned, I believe this song is a strong competitor for what could be the song of the summer because of the tone and how it constantly shifts to keep the listeners on their toes. With a great range of fast and slow, from playful to more serious, this song has a bit of everything, but it never feels overcrowded or like it's doing too much. This is a song that you can blast on repeat without getting bored of because of how diverse the song is all at once. It's a growing sound that is different and should be looked out for because of its uniqueness.

To conclude, “Day One” by Isaiah Peck is a catchy masterpiece that takes on many shifts and tones to keep the listener on their toes. It's a new and playful sound that should be explored and expanded by Toronto as it would merge well with the current city changes that Drake brings to the everyday Toronto listening experience. Isaiah is fresh and playful, with major standouts in his vocal range as well as how he adapts his lyrics into his music. It’s a breath of fresh air that doesn't get old, and as mentioned, my bets are on this song becoming a constant repeat on summer playlists.
