Young Smoke is one of Toronto’s most underrated talents. His discography, sound, and delivery are not only unique but powerful. Young Smoke holds a lot of weight in the city and his music can easily make massive waves around the world and in huge markets like the united states. But the young talent hase’t gone without some major losses like losing his older brother known as Smoke Dawg. He has been continuing to deliver great music and continuing his brother’s legacy. Young Smoke has this Atlanta rap sound to him, his flows, his cadence is just this melodic autotune rap that has taken the hip-hop game by storm but Smoke puts his Toronto spin on it. His music is infectious, meaning it’s addicting. His melodic deliveries just keep you hooked in and glued to the music. When taking a deep dive into his discography you soon realize his growth and maturity over the last 3 years. Young Smoke’s discography dates back to early 2019 with his first single titled “Days by Da Rabba”. This track brought a great performance and was a more experimental sound. It gave us a great tune to spin whilst giving us a glimpse into what kind of a talent we were about to witness unfold in front of us. His next single was titled “Ball” released in the summer of 2019 to a massive city reception. This track was insanely good in terms of the instrumentals and beat, the delivery, the flows, and cadence all went hand in hand. Young Smoke is just a natural and his talents were truly showcased in just two singles. His storytelling was on another level even back then. This is just what comes with living a certain lifestyle which Young Smoke knew all too well and it comes with a lot of negatives but in music, he was able to deliver something only other rappers would have to lie about. This gave Young Smoke that same energy and genuine confidence his brother’s music did before him. Young Smoke ended the year with a single titled “Paparazzi” giving us another fantastic performance and a more upbeat flex track. His versatility was already established. 2020 was an eventful year with a total of 5 singles, he continued his consistent releases and his progression as an artist. He ended the year off with my favorite single to that point titled “Cap”. His melodic game had improved and his overall maturity and confidence were unquestionable. 2021 was a big year with a total of 5 singles but this year he really became that bigger name delivering some of the best music coming from the city with tracks like “Big Body”, Exotic” and “They Already Know”. One thing I noticed is that Young Smoke is lacking a full-sized project or even an EP. I think his next step is to create a fantastic EP experience and slowly work towards delivering a full-length album full of incredible gems. But regardless, Young Smoke is one of my favorites in the city. He has a great discography and a bright future, hope to see him on DMTV at some point and hopefully a soon-to-come project.
