Thelonious
Toronto artist blog.
Thelonious is one of my favourite artists to come out of the city. He delivers this gritty lyrical street rap to the music scene, which is becoming increasingly difficult to find. He has the best delivery and flow of any artist in the city, and it seems to come naturally to him. His wit and confidence shine through the speaker. "Trouble Man" is my favourite song that perfectly expresses this. He radiates great energy and delivers a performance that is not just unforgettable but also inspiring. He has a distinct style that he executes flawlessly. Everything from the beat selection to his cadence is carefully structured and has evolved into a full-fledged style that he continually pursues. Looking at his discography, it appears that he has been releasing music since 2020. That was the year I discovered him; before I even started my platform, he was one of the first Toronto artists I listened to. Looking through his catalogue, it's clear that he prioritized quality over quantity. His first official year includes three singles and a five-track EP titled "One Summer's Day." His first single, "Thank You," was one of my personal favourite singles of that year. He honestly talked from the heart and gave a message that was difficult to ignore. This energy would carry over into his next two singles, "Silverstone Summertimes" and "Bezerk." 2020 displayed his talents and abilities as a rapper, and it was excellent preparation for the next year, 2021. The year began with the single "Trouble On My Mind." This track certainly introduces new elements. It has a higher quality production and an unexpected collaboration with Shqdel, which makes the track a whole lot more artistic and innovative. This is when Thelonious started making more cinematic music, like this piece, which you'd hear in a movie or a highly cinematic show. It's a progression that will only get stronger with time. The year continues with two more singles, "Tomorrow." and my personal favourite, "Trouble Man." This has been a great year so far, and it concluded with a huge bang. "Silverstone's Own," his first major project, is a 12-track album jam-packed with music. It's a unique piece with an intro song that isn't a song but rather a cool ambient intro to kick off the album. These ambient songs would occur as gaps between his full-on tracks on a couple of occasions. But the album was wonderfully put together; it had a vibe from the start and maintained it throughout the record, featuring some other outstanding talents and providing for a fantastic finale to the year. The year 2022 has only produced one single, titled "Tocksteady." Despite the fact that it was only one record, it brought together a large number of rappers from the community. I recognised his great knowledge of life experiences after listening to his discography. The way he painted a portrait of himself. Every tune offered something fresh, but he did so in a way that kept your attention throughout. Despite his limited discography, he has already demonstrated who he is and what he has to give. I'm looking forward to some new major collaborations and a full-length project. Let us wait and see what more he has in store for us.
