Sunny Addams
Toronto artist blog
Sunny Addams is a fascinating and talented Toronto-based artist. His sound is a unique mash-up of many diverse sounds. He truly stands out with his instrumental and beat selections, as well as his vocals. This might be due to his inspirations, which include T-pain, Usher, Kanye West, and Outkast. He borrows elements from each and creates his own sound and lane. His voice and delivery are distinctive. "Soljah" is an excellent illustration of this. His sound is experimental yet classic at the same time. His flow is crucial in bringing everything together. His delivery stands out above all else. Even more than his voice. His lyrics are good, filled with emotion and confidence. I pay a lot of attention to delivery, which can mean the difference between a good and a bad record. The voice can be perfect, the lyrics can be concise but if you can’t deliver it with confidence. It’s pointless.
Sunny's tiny but impressive discography includes songs like "Soljah," "Greed," and his most recent release, a two-track LP titled "Full Counter." The tape's two tracks are "Bedstuy" and "Perc Baby". My particular favorite is "Bedstuy." The visuals for "Bedstuy" were created by Sara SidHeri. The music comes to life in this video. The many locations and scenes keep the excitement flowing, the night shot with Sunny standing in a parking lot with a vehicle in the backdrop is my favorite. It's simple yet effective. “Perc Baby" is another fantastic song with a slower but still energetic instrumental. It has a distinct mood to "Bedstuy." They do, however, complement one another. It's merely a two-track EP, yet it seems like a full-length EP. It's amazing what you can achieve with just two tracks when you construct them differently. This is what distinguishes Sunny, yet he also reminds me of Remsen and Antwunn. Two more brilliant musicians with experimental sounds.
