Miggz
Toronto artist blog
Miggz is a talented artist with some big things on his plate. Miggz has been consistently releasing since 2019. His discography has some great quality tracks on there. “Akimbo” is where I first stumbled upon Miggz and that’s where I really got introduced to the style and the real energy of Miggz. That sound and energy was something I haven’t heard in Toronto and it got me hooked. Big props to my homie JDFM for being the main reason I found Miggz. JDFM is a videographer/ director who has been working with Miggz closely on some of his biggest records, “Akimbo”, and “M.I.A”. These two records are both incredible and have the ability to take Miggz to another level. Miggz has a fantastic voice and is able to articulate it in many different ways. Miggz really has this fantastic wordplay and great overall lyric choice for his hooks and has something to say in his verses. The catchy hooks are something Miggz has found a way to really make his signature sound. Every time I click on the play I know I will hear a masterpiece with a unique hook that will drive the energy.
His following is bigger than most artists I have been covering but he is still underground. Miggz should be gearing up for the next level. He is getting close to getting his breakout single but before that, he needs to continue to push out consistent records and build that fanbase up. The discography is growing but it needs more content. It’s important that everyone realizes that overnight success is not good, it’s only a scarier darker downfall after that. building that fanbase over time will almost always give longevity to an artist because they have worked their way up and didn’t just come out of nowhere. They built that foundation and respect that’s very important in the rap game especially.
The main thing that is missing in the city is the strong music scene foundation. This is something that has been a problem in the city for a while and something that I’m planning on fixing over time and through many different avenues and other people. At that moment the only real option is to target the US market. The US audience will appreciate the talent a lot more. This is where I see the real progression of Miggz and where he will be able to take his career forward. I do feel that him living here and repping Toronto would be the best way to go, but for all artists who decide to go and forget their hometown and embrace the US all the way, I can definitely respect it. The scene is an open slate at the moment, there is room for all of us to come together and really build something ourselves rather than wait for something that will never come. That is what DMTV is and that is what I see for the future of the Toronto scene.
