Antwunn
Toronto artist blog
Antwunn is someone that definitely deserves the spotlight. He makes some quality music with substance. Antwunn is a different level of artistry, he constructs his music rather than through it together. It’s definitely a more calculated approach but it makes for consistent timeless pieces of work. I feel all of his music so far is well-made and calculated. Antwunn doesn’t make music without reason and that I respect a lot. That won’t bring the most money home right now but when he builds that strong fanbase he will have records that will be played for decades to come. There are not many comparisons I can make to Antwunn which is a very good sign when looking into an artist. He has his own sound and looks. Antwunn is part of a collective of other fellow artists like Remsen. Remsen is someone we covered earlier this month when he was featured as a Toronto artist of that week. This classic instrumental and lyrical rap is something that is becoming more and more underappreciated in today's time, especially in Toronto. This is crazy because the history of rap in Toronto dates back to the 70s. Not long after the first rappers from California. This rich history of rap is dying in Toronto, and the new generations are forgetting it. I love all kinds of music and hip hop, from Kendrick Lemar, JCole to TyFontaine and Yeat. Modern rap is refreshing and innovative but people cannot forget the importance of lyrical rap and classic rap as a whole. Antwunn in my eyes is bringing a lot of that classic energy back and is making it in a modern and personal way. Antwunn’s discography is a small yet powerful one. Tracks like “MIA”, Tabula Rasa”, and “Wake Up” are all fantastic works of art that are timeless. I can safely say that Antwunn is going to be that artist that does not get the media attention but releases some of the hardest, most real music in the world with a cult-like fanbase and the respect of all of his peers. That is the energy I get from hearing his music. Overall, Antwunn is a talented artist with a strong future if he starts releasing more consistently. His music holds wait and has a message behind it, not no party vibe music but some real shit. I can’t wait to hear what he releases next and when he does I will be right there ready to take it all in.
