Old Ways by Swavy
Toronto Music Archive
Swavy recently released the song of the year. He has some of the most distinct sounds emanating from the city. His cadence is a big part of what sets him apart, but his simple yet addictive flow and delivery really tie everything together. This could be one of the best hooks of the year, thanks to its infectious and memorable sound. It's an extremely well-crafted track, with everything from the production to the mix quality being flawless. I like the track's structure; it's all about the vibe. There are no overly lyrical sections or long drawn out verses. Everything was perfectly timed and delivered, making you want to keep playing it over and over. The song also features a simple beat that adds a lot of punch while staying out of the way and allowing Swavy's beautiful vocals to shine. His vocal tone is perfectly pitched, and he hits the sweet spot where it's neither too high nor too low. He discovered his range, and it is this range that has made him so popular. For good reason, the city has been playing and sharing this track all over the airwaves this past week. This a radio and playlist smash hit. Toronto is packed with incredible talent like this, as well as a plethora of underground talent that may never see the light of day. I'm glad to see Swavy doing his thing and actually getting the recognition he deserves, he has a lot more to show, but I can tell he has a lot more ready in the vault. Swavy is riding a wave right now, and he appears to be the next to take the massive leap. His music, appearance, and overall sound are all on track to go global. I'm looking forward to seeing what else he has planned for the year and hoping to see some sort of project soon.
