Majik by Nue & Rx Papi
Toronto Music Archive
Nue and Rx Papi have just released their latest single, "Majik." Nue delivers his classic cadence while floating on the beat. Rx delivered an outstanding overall performance and gave us one of my favourite verses in recent months. They both have their sounds dialled in, and you can hear the confidence in their deliveries. As I mentioned in my in-depth article about him, Nue is a very diverse and versatile artist. Even in his brief discography, he demonstrates much of what makes a superstar, and this song is no exception. Rx's more aggressive delivery is balanced by Nue's smooth flow. The two artists' chemistry is palpable, and it's clear that they each bring their own distinct styles and personalities to the track. Nue has like I mentioned demonstrated his versatility over the years, but I like how he has found his lane and increased his consistency and overall output of content. That is only gonna get him further in his music career, quality is vital but consistency is what will get you a long term career. The song starts off with nostalgic plugnb-style instrumentals and hard-hitting drums. The glockenspiel's bright sounds and electronic melodies add a touch of whimsy and playfulness to the track, while the heavy bass-line adds urgency and energy. I adore the vibrant cover art. It's a crowded image with a lot going on. But there's something about it that feels relaxed and vibing. I can tell that the cover art serves no purpose other than to be a good representation of the vibes you get when listening to this song. I mentioned this because covers play an important role in making something visually recognizable and also something you can use as a visual reminder of that particular track. The cover for "Majik" does hold wait and does provide something memorable. Lastly I love the mixing and mastering on this track, done very well. There is something so natural about these two that just feels legit. But I can’t wait to see what Nue does next. Let’s hop we see some type of a project in the next coming months.
