Slim Dinero is a gifted artist with impressive credentials. Slim is one of those who has been creating music while staying out of the way. He has some of the city's best and most consistent music. He is unquestionably one of the top names that are underappreciated. Slim is bringing real music to the city, with over 50,000 monthly streams and no drama behind his name to explain those numbers, just good music. Slim's sound is heavily influenced by American culture and a blend of our Toronto roots. But in Toronto, he has a distinct sound that resonates with listeners regardless of who they are. It's a mainstream style of rap. His voice and melody draw people in, and his flow and delivery only add to the impact. Slim uses the higher pitch of his voice but does it in a way that brings enough low end to sound heavy and not annoying. Over the years he has experimented with different tones and sounds but his most recent music really showcases the best range for his voice, his lyrical play helps in his sound coming together. Guys like Duvy and Jneat have that autotuned baby voice that is amplified by the beat and the crazy ad-libs. Slim, on the other hand, has a sound a lot more true to his natural voice and he uses his voice to its full potential. Slim reminds me of an NBA Youngboy from Toronto, not in terms of sound, but in consistent numbers, he achieves in relation to the size of the city. Slims' discography spans several years, beginning in 2017. Ever since then he has been making pumping out music. His first single, "Dumb Figures," was released in September 2017, signaling the start of a future star. This song depicts Slim as a shell of who he would later become. But this is something that we all experience, some artists hide their first releases but Slim leaves it up as history. It's amazing to see how he's evolved from his early experimental sound to his more refined and personal sound now. You can hear it in his voice that he wasn't confident behind the mic, whether he thought he was or not. But that would change with the release of "Trust the Process" in late 2017, which delivered a stronger, more melodic performance. And to close out the year, "Nero Flow," which delivered that more electric 2016 Atlanta sound. He would also release "Stuck in My Ways." This is without a doubt his best song from that year. He had this insane level of progression in just a few months. He went through four different phases in four songs, and "Stuck in My Ways" delivered that melodic, jumpy, and classic Toronto trap sound we all know and love. Slim's reputation would only grow in 2018 with songs like "Money Calling Me," "Pretend," and "For Granted." Throughout 2018, his delivery, cadence, and production would all improve and evolve. He released two projects that would shape his sound, "No Holdbacks" and "Self Explanatory," which would permanently alter his tone. 2019 appears to be the year Slim discovered his complete sound and cadence. He really began to sound different and stand out. He released "Here to Stay," a project with a great tracklist and a very confident and evolved sound. This would only begin to rise in the coming years, with 2020 and 2021 bringing us projects like "Interstellar," "Separate Myself," and "Pyromaniac." This is some of the best rap music from the city. It's not gimmicky or technical; it's creative and memorable. He has amassed an impressive and memorable discography through his music. Listening to his discography, he is the most consistent and versatile artist at his level in the city. I can't say he needs to release more, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't looking forward to another full-length project or a new single. Regardless, I'm looking forward to hearing what he has in store for us next and with whom he will collaborate.
