SB is an up-and-coming artist with a lot of promise. He was able to make a name for himself. His autotuned high-pitched voice isn't irritating; in fact, it's exactly the contrary. His hooks and flows are spot on. He has a way of hooking you without doing anything out of the ordinary. On the mic, he has that natural flow and confidence. That is an important aspect of any musician, but in rap, it is an absolute requirement if you want people to take you seriously. SB has a lot of promise in terms of creating his own wave, but he needs to keep evolving his sound. His flows and rhythms are unique, but his voice is comparable to those of many other Toronto musicians. This is OK, and I believe he will develop his own tone with time. His voice has individual components that I can perceive, but for the general listener, he'll just sound like many other rappers in the city, which is OK, but I think SB has a bigger future.
His discography is well-organized, and he has the makings of a massive smash album. He does have a little following that is growing. Some of his strongest and best work is on tunes like "Spendin," "Misunderstood," and "Forgiatos." These are, without a doubt, his most popular singles. "Spendin," is the first track I heard, it’s like an anthem. It drew my attention and demonstrated his flexibility in terms of hooks, verses, and vocal range. Most people try to sound like this and fail badly, but SB is a natural at it, and he does it so well that the tune is constantly replayed. "Misunderstood" demonstrates his ability to spit and keep you interested in his rhymes. It's a 2-minute tune made entirely of bars, with no hooks. It's because of his delivery that it's so enjoyable. I notice a lot of inspiration from Duvy and LB Spiffy. But he still has his own voice, and when he harmonizes and sings in that high-pitched voice, it's incredible. It provides a unique element to the sound and helps SB stand out.
SB's constancy will aid in the development of that core following over time. He combines the sound of Toronto with the fashion sense of a hyper pop artist, resulting in something unique. I originally saw it through Moeski, and now I'm seeing it via SB, a close associate of his. Once again, this is something that has the potential to become something enormous and unique for the entire globe. That will encourage them to create something significant and long-term rather than following a trend and failing to succeed like the rest of the copycat rappers we see on a daily basis. I see a lot of potential in SB, and he's already doing things his own way, which only adds to the process of figuring out who you are and where you fit in the industry.
