Lil Esso

Toronto artist blog

Lil Esso is a young talented musician hailing from Toronto. Esso is an independent artist who mixes and produces his own music. This is supported by the fact that he comes from a very musical family but that doesn’t take away from his skills. Having that backing is always helpful but if the artist in question can’t help himself all those assets are useless. This is why I’m very happy to see another independent artist with such quality and potential making his way up the ladder. Esso is still early on in his career, his first official release (based in Spotify) is titled “Take me” back in 2018. This is definitely not his first song but his first proper release. Ever since then he has been grinding and dropping music on a consistent basis. He released one single “Take me” and a full project titled “Chance” in 2018. 12 singles and a project titled “XIV” in 2019. 16 singles and a two project titled “Unknown” & “Landed” in 2020 respectfully, and 3 singles just this year with a few tracks he appears on as features from fellow artists “Miss B” & “Jord”. This is a lot of quality music to run through. Combining his total, he has released 86 tracks in the last 3 years. You can also hear the progression in sound and quality in every project. This is the level of consistency and commitment that is far and few between in Toronto and something that makes E$$o stand out. His being an independent artist is also one aspect that I can really respect because without growing a genuine fanbase the chances of making it a living is slim to none. Russ is probably one of the best examples of someone that the industry hates but is living it. He has made it by releasing hundreds of tracks and countless albums until he did and didn’t let the short-term money get to his head. All three singles from this year are quality. “Feel Me”, “Treat me like I do”, “Somewhere far” are all fantastic, they all bring something different to the table yet have so much in common. His vocals, his range, his rhythm, and levels are on point. He can take his vocals in many different ranges and pitches throughout a single track. “Somewhere far” is a perfect example of what I’m talking about. Esso has a very bright future and we can’t wait to hear what he releases next.
