Water Whip by DJ Charlie B, 2Kz, Ytn paco
Toronto Music Archive
Dj Charlie has created some of the biggest and finest tracks to come out of Toronto's rap culture. He has an ear for good music and brings together musicians from all across the city. He gives Dj Khalid a run for his money. That's not even going into his production, which conveys the entire tale on its own. The song included two rap artists named 2Kz and Ytn Paco. This was a first-time collaboration, and it was well welcomed and executed. 2Kz performed a powerful verse with a lot of substance. His hook is memorable and infectious, lending a feeling of urgency and strength to the song. He's certainly the highlight of the song. But Paco, as usual, has a particular cadence that is clearly his. He adds his own sauce to the record and just levels the whole thing up. His vocal tones and flows are distinct and punchy. All three brought the energy to the music video directed by The Mob. The energy and chemistry between all three of them and the crew seemed natural. This is something I feel lacking in a lot of videos in the city. They are mostly empty soulless bodies of work with no real purpose or intent. But Charlie’s project all seems to bring that genuine vibe and excitement. Speaking of Charlie, he is responsible for the track's excellent instrumentals and production. I'd want to see these two work together more often. There is the possibility for some very unique and weird recordings that can transform the landscape of Toronto, and Dj Charlie possesses the talent and platform to make it all happen. I hope to see more artists from throughout Toronto brought together for albums that would not have been otherwise, and this is all made possible by folks like Dj Charlie.
