Purple by KAY NIVE$
Toronto Music Archive
KAY NIVE$ is a one-of-a-kind hyper pop rage artist with a diverse discography. Most of the time, his sound is highly unique and unorthodox. His sound is absolutely distinct and unique to KAY. He doesn't simply go for one sound, but a variety of different sounds. He uses that high-pitched voice on the majority of his albums. However, his album "KAY NIVE$ Presents... ULTRA4GOLD!!" features a diverse range of sounds and styles. "Chromium", "Cellar Door", and Face Tat". But "Purple" is my particular fave. This one features some clean vocals as well as the typical KAY that we all know and love. This is one of the album's most polished and professional-sounding tunes, and it really jumped out to me. I hadn't heard anything like this from KAY's earlier albums, and I assumed he was simply stuck in his own lane. But "Purple" is a fantastic representation of what he can accomplish and how easy he can do what the others are doing. This adds to the enjoyment of his other pieces because it is entirely his own. Kay NIVE$ offers the traditional baby voice and the rapid hard flow, while the instrumentals are minimal yet provide that thump. The continuous "PURR" just adds that extra level of KAY we needed. It's rare to find a Toronto artist with such powerful potential in this new current hyper pop environment. In Toronto, there is a building community, but KAY has to be the one that sticks out the most. His cadence and delivery are unique to each track and separate him from the other musicians in his genre. I’m genuinely excited to see what he releases next and what sound he continues to push.
