His voice is both angelic and powerful, with a lot of versatility in his style and delivery. He specializes in alternative R&B and infuses his personal experiences into his music, which sets him apart from others. When I first heard RYE, I knew he was something special. Despite being underrated, his voice is truly amazing, and he showcases it perfectly in tracks like "IDK" and "Never Know." RYE has a small but high-quality discography, with only 7 singles and an album released over the past 5 years. I believe he has tremendous potential waiting to be fully unleashed. Even with a limited amount of music, he has made a lasting impact on me, making it worth exploring his work. His first official release on Spotify is the album "Pray Love Power," consisting of 8 tracks. The overall project shows great improvement in production and mixing compared to his earlier works. There is a noticeable difference between RYE's vocals and the music he creates today. His older music lacked confidence, affecting the flow and cohesion. However, I appreciate the experimental vibe of his early project, particularly tracks like "Whine," "Burning," and "3 AM." Among them, "Whine" is the most polished and well-put-together song, with its vibrant summer anthem aesthetic. In December of the same year, RYE released the single "Take It," which didn't show significant improvements in quality but had visually appealing cover art. Visual content is important for the longevity and visibility of music, complementing the main focus on the music itself. Over the course of two years, RYE released two more singles titled "Talk To Me Nice (T.T.M.N)" and "NoWhere To Run Freestyle." These singles showcased a significant leap forward in vocal performance and overall production quality, further developing RYE's distinctive R&B sound. After a gap of over two years, RYE released his single "IDK" in 2022, which marked a turning point in his career. The production quality in this single is superb, accompanied by RYE's angelic and punchy vocals. The visual content elevates RYE's image to another level, representing a massive leap forward in quality. "IDK" captivates listeners with its opening vocals, subtle instrumental pattern, and excellent beat drop. It combines trap rap vibes with RYE's angelic voice, creating a captivating experience. His next single, "Never Know," is a certified hit and showcases RYE's growth as an artist. From the acoustic guitar riff that sets the tone to the infectious melodies and memorable hooks, everything about this song is cohesive and well-crafted. In early 2023, RYE released a 5-track EP titled "The Boy Who Lived," which featured "IDK" and "Never Know" along with three new tracks: "P.O.M," "Lately," and "Giv Me (Bonus Track)." These tracks maintain the same style aesthetic, with "Lately" standing out as the most unique and abstract, incorporating a more melodic rap sound. The EP showcases RYE's ability to deliver fresh and innovative music. "Giv Me (Bonus Track)" is the standout among the new tracks, with its classic RYE R&B sound, vibrant production, and beautiful melodies. RYE is definitely an artist to watch out for, especially in the Toronto music scene. He possesses immense talent and the potential to make a significant impact in the industry. I hope to see more music from RYE this year, along with a more consistent release schedule and collaborations like his latest release, "TWOONETHREE." I think a full-length project in the next year would be something to aim for. This will give RYE a shot to put together a body of work that truly means something to him and this will open a lot of doors in the industry. This will also build a lot of new fans that may have not either heard of RYE or just didn’t have enough music to stick around for Regardless, I’m excited to see where RYE goes next.
