Haviah Mighty
Toronto artist blog.
Haviah Mighty is a Canadian hip-hop artist who has been making waves in the music industry with her unique style and powerful lyrics. Born and raised in Brampton, Ontario, Haviah began writing and performing music at a young age and has since become known for her socially conscious and politically charged tracks. Haviah's music is heavily influenced by her Jamaican heritage and her experiences as a black woman in Canada. She often tackles themes of racism, sexism, and inequality in her songs, using her platform to raise awareness and start important conversations within the community. Her music is raw, emotional, and unapologetic, and has resonated with many people around the world. She is global now, reaching new levels and heights each year. The importance of artists who can tap into a specific demographic of people is important. It gives a voice to the voiceless and brings uncomfortable conversations to be had. This is what makes the world better, talking with each other and seeing the effects of one’s actions. Music is one of the best ways to being people together and transfers information to people who may not see the same views. I can only imagine how many people she has helped through her music and her diverse and well-versed discography is a great example of that. Haviah’s discography begins in 2017 with her first release being a 7-track EP titled “Flower City.” This project had a great high-quality sound that was actually a shock at first. I wasn’t expecting such a well-put-together project. There are literally hit-worthy records on this like “Westside,” “On the Low,” and “For Free.” This is a Trap and Rap project with that 2017 Atlanta sound. She has such a great voice and a powerful cadence. She sounds like a natural, just pure confidence behind the mic. “Westside” is the perfect track, this is the best track of the project. It nails everything perfectly, from the instrumentals to the beat selection, to the delivery and flow. Haviah created a memorable melodic masterpiece that still holds up perfectly today.
2019 would deliver a very consistent Haviah, her aesthetic was consistent all across her releases. From the cover art style to the music itself. The more memorable releases were “In Women Colour,” “Wishy Washy” featuring Omega Mighty, and “Blame.” Her reach and attention got to a high point with most of these singles surpassing quarter million streams on Spotify alone. This is also when I feel her message began to take shape and took a more important role in her music. The track “In Women Colour” is the perfect example of this and one of those tracks that took her to another level. Production has been perfect ever since her first release, it’s actually amazing to see great quality production and attention to fine details. This would be elevated on her debut album titled “13th Floor.” The name itself is a message. That’s how deep she began to get around this time and it’s one of her stand-out features moving forward. The project of course delivered 13 songs. 4 of them were the singles she released throughout the year but we did end up getting 10 new tracks. The standout tracks to me were “Thirteen,” “Oh My,” and “Smoke” featuring Clairmont The Second. This project is so well made, and the production is superb. Her delivery and flows are always fresh and exciting, as well as her memorable melodic hooks that really captured my attention. She would slow down a bit in 2020 with a few releases. She did release another single in 2019 and a few in 2020 but the releases weren’t that frequent and consistent. 2021 would deliver a lot though with a lot more singles than any year before it. The stand-out singles to me were “Good On My Own Tonight” featuring TOBi, “Flamenco” featuring Mala Rodriguez, and “Coulda Been U” featuring Astrokidjay. Her continuing development as an artist is evident. Her track with Astrokidjay was great to see. I love to see talented artists like Haviah work with talented rappers like Astro. The blend between the two was amazing. Their melodic synergy was well done and felt very natural. I would listen to a whole collab tape of these two. A match-up I didn’t think I needed. Now we reach the next project.
This next project is what got me into Haviah, it’s her second full-length album titled “Stock Exchange.” This 12-track album is full of bangers such as “Atlantic,” “So So” featuring Dai Burger, and “Obeah.” This is yet another well-put-together project that has so many different vibes behind it. It’s a diverse body of work that has a lot to offer to many different listeners. A lot of the singles mentioned earlier were featured on this album so there weren’t as many new singles as the last project but all the songs felt cohesive. Aside from that, the production and delivery were well executed and felt like a purposeful body of work. 2022 and so far in 2023 wouldn’t deliver much. Her collaboration with the brand Colors was an exciting moment. The track would be released on Spotify titled “Imagine That - A COLORS SHOW.” “Pull up,” and “Honey Bun” are her other releases for the year. “Pull Up” was a single from a two-pack EP titled “Pull Up (Aleqs Notal Remix).” This project features Keys N Krates a well-known producer group that was behind some of the biggest dubstep and house beats of the early to mid-2010s. This is a major collab for her. One that I feel is understated by most. The track “Pull Up” garnered over half a million streams on Spotify alone. Her first and only release for 2023 would be “Room Service.” This two-pack features last year’s “Honey Buns” as the second single. The track “Room Service” is a melodic dance track that features a more reggaeton grove and tropical aesthetic. Haviah's impact extends far beyond the music industry. She is an outspoken advocate for social justice and uses her platform to raise awareness about important issues. She has spoken out against police brutality and racial profiling and has been involved in community activism in her hometown of Brampton. Haviah's music is a testament to the power of art to effect change. She is a fearless artist who is unafraid to speak truth to power, and her message resonates with audiences around the world. With her unique style and powerful voice, Haviah Mighty is sure to continue making waves in the music industry for years to come.
