Charlie Noiir
Toronto artist blog.
Charlie Noiir, originally from Toronto's west end, offers a vibrant and diverse portrayal of our city through his music. Having immersed himself in the heart of Toronto's popular scene, Charlie has experienced it all, from parties to a wide range of people. This exposure has given him a unique perspective on culture and various topics, setting him apart from artists who take a narrow-minded approach. Charlie's music is versatile and focuses on feel-good vibes, delivering soulful energy with each song. Before his solo career, Charlie was part of the duo group OSIYM, which started releasing music in 2015. Their biggest single reached over 300,000 streams on Spotify, with Charlie serving as the lead vocalist. His solo career has been even more extensive, surpassing many underground talents in terms of the amount of music he has released. Charlie's talent has garnered attention from platforms like Noisy and Complex, and his music has been featured on major Spotify playlists such as Hip-Hop Central, 'Viral 50', and Northern Bars. It's clear that Charlie is no newcomer to the game, and his experience shines through in his music. Over time, he has matured, especially since his days with OSIYM. Charlie's solo discography began in 2019 with his first single, "Very Scary." Although the production may have an older style, it carries a distinct 2019-Atlanta vibe in its delivery and cadence. Personally, I appreciate this sound, and Charlie's performance on the track is exceptional. His versatile voice allows him to shift vocal tones and create various cadences within a single song. It's a strong opening to his discography, and he continued to release more captivating tracks in 2020. Among the memorable singles of that year are "Talk To Me Nice" featuring YoungWolf, "Don't Stay" featuring Scotty IV, XNDR Q., and "Ugly." "Ugly" happens to be my personal favorite, as it exudes a powerful and melodic approach. Charlie's cadence on this track is one of his best. There's a genuine rawness and aggression in his vocal tone that felt authentic and rough. The lyrics and instrumental add to the experience, and his flow and rhythmic changes throughout the track are the icing on the cake. Each of the other singles offers its own unique charm.
"Talk To Me Nice" has a darker and emotional aesthetic, supported by grand instrumentals that create a larger-than-life atmosphere. The artwork accompanying the song aptly captures the mixed emotions it evokes. 2021 proved to be another great year for Charlie, with solid releases including standout tracks like "Poltergeist," "Wussup" featuring Casino Costa, and "Lavish" featuring YoungWolf. "Poltergeist" stands out as the most memorable track of that year. The production is exceptional, combining high-energy 808s with infectious melodies that deliver an immersive experience. This level of quality extends to most of Charlie's subsequent releases which would only get more exciting. In 2021, Charlie also released his first project titled "Faberge," a collaborative tape between Charlie, Tremayne, and Scotty IV. This 9-track project is filled with bangers, showcasing a consistent beat selection and a solid style across the entire project. It's challenging to pick favorites as the overall consistency remained powerful, and it’s evident nothing really felt like it stood out too much but nothing also fell short of expectation. It’s a quality product that holds up to its purpose. This energy continued into 2022, a year that brought numerous quality releases. Notable released this year would be "Beside Me," "Origami" featuring DBLCRSS, and Charlie's debut solo album, "On My Sleeve." The stylistic differences between "Beside Me" and "Origami" are a picture-perfect example of Charlie’s versatility. "Beside Me" carries a melodic and emotional vibe to it, with its slower tempo and captivating atmosphere deeply resonating with listeners. On the other hand, "Origami" brings an energetic punch to the table. Its Trap-inspired production and unique cadence give it an edge over other tracks. These stylistic changes set the stage for the album, taking the music to new heights. "On My Sleeve" delivers several memorable tracks, such as "Very Scary," "Masters," and "Reasons" featuring Tribe Alexander. The album showcases impressive diversity, and as Charlie's first full body of work, it truly stands out as one of the best debut projects in the underground. The quality of Charlie's music is undeniable, and his talents have consistently shone through. His dedication to his craft is evident, and it's exciting to anticipate where his journey will lead him next.
